Dr. Soumya Panchanathan was born in New Delhi, India and came to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 5 months. She moved to Canada at the age of 5 where she completed her education, including her medical training and pediatric residency. She moved with her husband and two children to Phoenix, Arizona in 1997 and joined a pediatric private practice. While her children were completing high school, she returned to college to complete a Masters degree in Biomedical Informatics. She is currently the associate program director for the Phoenix Childrens Hospital Pediatrics Residency Program and is the theme director for Biomedical Informatics at the UofA College of Medicine Phoenix.

Soumya Panchanathan teaches Sai Spiritual Education to youth age 15-18 in the Sri Sathya Sai Center of Mesa and plays harmonium for the twice weekly bhajans. Her husband is the Executive Vice-President for research, entrepreneurship, and innovation at Arizona State University and her daughter, son, and son-in-law are all students at the UofA College of Medicine in Phoenix. She has been inspired by her parents, who left thriving medical practices in Canada 27 years ago to give free service in rural India.
